「かるた」とは、一人のプレイヤーがカードに書いてある文字を読み、ほかのプレイヤーがそれに該当するカードを取りあうというゲームである。昔から多くの人に楽しまれてきたが、近年では、競技として人気になっているものもある。それは、一般に「百人一首」と呼ばれるかるたを使って遊ぶカードゲームである。全国大会優勝者がカードを取るスピードはわずか0.2秒。伝統的な日本の詩、和歌を題材にしているかるたなので、日本の文化にも触れることができる。今回は、最近、世界大会も行われるほどになった「かるた」の魅力に迫る。

 When we play karuta, one player reads reading cards and the others try to spot picture cards which describe the contents of the reading card. Karuta has long been enjoyed only by families and friends usually, but it began to enjoy popularity among the gamers who compete results. The competition is usually played with 100 cards of each contains 1 famous poem on it from an ancient collection called "Hyakunin Isshu(100 poems from 100 poets)".

 They compete both their memory of poems and the speed of spotting relative cards. Those who win the national championship spot a card in about 0.2 seconds. As you imagine so, these old poems help introduce Japanese culture to the growing number of players all over the world.
