日本語で、物事をよりよくすることを「改善」と言う。6０年代日本の高度経済成長期に製造現場で生産性や品質、安全性を高める取り組みを「カイゼン」と言うようになり，現在ではこの考え方は世界中に広まっている。最近のカイゼン例として、女性が中心になって生産性を高めたサンドイッチ工場と、障がい者の目線に立ち、はたらきやすい職場づくりに成功した工場をとりあげ、小さな取り組みで大きな効果をあげるカイゼンを紹介する。

Kaizen – The Secret behind Japanese Productivity

Kaizen originally means just “to improve”. During Japan’s economic growth in the 1960s, many manufacturing companies proceeded to re-check every routine work to cut waste and maximize productivity. Then this nationwide movement in industry was called “kaizen”, too.

We’ll show how the Kaizen approach has acquired significant results even by minor changes through two cases. One is the female workforce at a sandwich factory which boosted their productivity, and another is the plant where they have many workers with disabilities.
