Traditional Gold Leaf – A Timeless Luster

Traditional method of making gold leaf as thin as 1/10,000th of a millimeter, is one of 17 Japanese architectural craftsmanship listed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity. This gold leaf is mostly made in Kanazawa, where the humid climate prevents static electricity and makes gold leaf easy to work with. For over 400 years, this gold leaf has been used to restore famous historical buildings like Kinkakuji Temple and Nikko Toshogu Shrine. As it's so soft, it's even used to add a touch of luxury to sweets as well.
