奄美大島　～希少生物と生きる～

日本の南部にある島々の一つ、奄美大島。その魅力は、希少な生物を育む自然環境。奄美大島や周辺の島々のみで見られる、様々な固有種が生息している。固有種の数は700以上。世界的にも稀な生物多様性が注目され、2021年には、近隣の徳之島、沖縄島北部、西表島とともに、ユネスコ世界自然遺産に登録された。人と自然との距離が近いため、人との関わりのなかで生物たちが傷ついてしまうこともある。島では自然との共存を続け生物多様性を守るために、獣医師が治療や予防に奮闘するなど、島民たちが努力を続けている。

Amami–Oshima – Living in Biodiversity

Amami-Oshima is an island in the far south of Japan famed for its natural environment, home to many rare species only found here and on islands nearby. The island's biodiversity, having over 700 native species, led to it being listed as a part of UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage site in 2021. On this small island, rare animals and people live so close that accidents harming the wildlife has been happening frequently. However, thanks to the efforts of the islanders and their local veterinarian, measures to protect this biodiversity are succeeding.

與珍稀動植物共存共生――奄美大島

奄美大島是位於日本南部的衆多島嶼之一，島上的自然環境十分適合珍稀動植物生長。奄美大島及其周邊島嶼栖息著各種各樣只在這裏才能見到的原生物種，種類達700種以上。這裏的生物多樣性放眼全球也十分罕見，2021年，奄美大島與鄰近的德之島、衝繩島北部、西表島一起被聯合國教科文組織列爲世界自然遺產。由於人和自然的距離近在咫尺，有不少動物在與人相處的過程中受到傷害。爲了守護島上的生物多樣性，與自然共存共生，一位獸醫通過治療和預防等方式貢獻著自己的一份力量。本集將介紹以這位獸醫爲代表的島上居民的奮鬥。
